8/15 – “This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! …treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” – Rumi
This entire trip was entirely a practice in my utter humanity, in greeting each moment and the emotions it brought with an open and joyful heart, even when those moments and emotions hurt, then letting them leave as they were ready, as any guest should. Which brings me to today:
8/19 – “This life of ours would not cause you sorrow
if you thought of it as like
the mountain cherry blossoms
which bloom and fade in a day.” – Murasaki Shikibu
Neither attachment, nor detachment…. but non-attachment. letting things/feelings/people come and letting them go.
