“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”
PS – Even if Hillary had won, I’d still be ‘upset’. Saying I don’t agree with one side doesn’t mean I, by default, agree with the other. I’m proud of everyone that marched peacefully, protested, and used their rights to express their views and opinions. I don’t agree with them all 100%, but that’s ok. I’m still proud they made the statement.
I make the appeal then to my libertarian, anarchist, anarcho-capitalist, and independent thinking friends, to make similar statements with equanimity, of fairness and equality, but most of all, that which we all hold to be the highest right and virtue of this nation, freedom.
“Because to take away a man’s freedom of choice, even his freedom to make the wrong choice, is to manipulate him as though he were a puppet and not a person.”
– Madelaine L’Engle
What Kael didn’t tell his class, the thing I was proud he remembered, was “having to choose between the devil you know and the devil you don’t is not really having a choice at all.”
Seek truth. Love life and live it.
