The sun shines not on us, but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing.
– John Muir
In the winter I get the SAD pretty intensely. This year, I was already struggling with my depression so I started antidepressants to help. It did. I also use a “sun” light on the darkest, gloomiest days. It really does help. I even bought grow lights because my succulents were stretching too much for every tiny photon they could get.
The sun may not always shine either through us or on us, but with awareness we can take little baby steps to restore our light when the days are dark.
The days are getting longer and brighter. Spring is almost here and I cannot wait for the day I can lay in my grass and feel the damp, cool, living earth beneath me. Take care of yourselves until the sun is shining brightly through you again.
