To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.

I have been busily creating in my home for months now. It started with replacing windows that were old and drafty. The new windows changed the light in the house. The new light required new paint. So I painted every room (except the kitchen.) Then I rearranged my kids rooms to give them more space and let them enjoy the new light as well. Then, I got two new chairs for my living room and they became the lynchpin for redecorating my main living space. (More photos below)

Today marks one year since me ex husband signed over his ownership of our house to me. One year of solo homeownership. I moved a LOT as a child. I constantly felt anxious and unstable and so once I had children my number one priority was “stability”. To me, stability meant living in one place for as long as possible. We’ve lived here for 10 years now and the kids have no idea just how much it means to me, even though I tell them all the time. I am so proud of myself for this, which is something I rarely say. In fact, I don’t know many people who speak of the things they are proud of accomplishing. But, I am. Owning a home by myself was a little bit scary but also something that was really important to me. And I’m fucking doing it, which amazes me when I stop to think about it. If I can do this, whatever hard thing you want to accomplish, you can do it. I believe in you, like I believe in the power of the Airy Fairy Lair.

I am in love with this house. My nest. My “Airy Fairy Lair”, as I call it. It is my favorite place to create and my favorite thing to create and shape and change.

When I first started this blog it was more “lifestyle” than whatever this is now. I may start doing some craft focused blogs again… hmmm.. perhaps.

So, here are my chairs:

Right before I took the original upholstery off. That took about 6 hours. And 2000 staples, at least. (Argo, paying our dog tax) approves of recovering them.)
For real, TWO THOUSAND staples.
Down to the bones.
Main pattern pieces cut out. I didn’t have the accent fabric cut yet.
Coming together. I LOVE the blue velvet. Disregard my sub flooring showing.
First seat cushion DONE! I had to order a long nose stapler to finish the back. That is coming TODAY!

What makes you feel in love with life and want to create or be creative? Where or what is your muse? I never would have expected my muse to be my house, but here we are. Haha. What are you creating today?

Love life and live it.

Audaciously,

Allie
